Jonathan has been guiding clients with their financial decisions since 2012. He began his career as a Bank Teller with one of the Big 6 Banks in Brandon, Manitoba and held a number of advisory roles in that area before relocating to Edmonton in 2015. After relocating, he progressed through several wealth advisory roles with the Bank and a local credit union before ultimately taking his career in an independent direction with Raymond James in 2023. He is the founder of Allied Asset Management - a company name that serves as a tribute to his ancestors who have carried on a 65-year tradition of small business in Alberta.
Jonathan earned his Certified Financial Planner Designation in 2017 and his Bachelor of Commerce Degree, major in management from MacEwan University in 2019. He continues to pursue further education with other designations in his view.
Jonathan is passionate about simplifying the increasingly-complicated world of investing, financial planning, and wealth management for his clients. He believes in communicating in easy-to-understand language and adopting strategies that will "get the job done" while remaining simple and easy to understand for the average person.
Growing up in a split family, Jonathan comes from a long line of hard-workers. Raised primarily by his mother and step-father in Manitoba on a mixed farming operation, he is passionate about helping the families who work tirelessly to keep food on our tables and heat our homes. Maintaining a very close relationship with his father in Edmonton, Jonathan would spend his summers helping his Dad with the family brake business - Allied Brake and Clutch, which was established in 1958 and carried on until 2022. He comes from a family of dedicated, passionate people who pour their hearts and souls into their crafts. He knows first-hand the experiences of having all of your "skin in the game", which has honed an unparalleled respect for how hard these entrepreneurs work for their savings. With these life experiences, he specializes in advising clients who are planning a transition into retirement, business owners seeking to plan their retirement/exit strategies, estate planning, and clients who have recently or are soon expecting to come into a sudden wealth injection (such as an inheritance or lottery winnings).
Jonathan is passionate about empowering youth with financial literacy and participating in the Edmonton and area business community. Outside of work, he and his partner Beth enjoy visiting family spanning from British Columbia to Ontario, trying out new cuisines, and enjoying local activity highlights in and around Edmonton. Jonathan enjoys golfing with his friends and associates, curling, and the odd indulgence in tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons.
